Online therapy has become increasingly popular due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but some critics question its effectiveness, particularly text- and audio-based online therapy. They point to the therapist’s inability to see their client and observe their patient’s body language, tone of voice, and overall demeanor. These observations provide the therapist with additional information about the person’s well-being. Critics also say that online therapy is impersonal and incapable of providing people with the tools and skills traditional in-person therapy offers.

However, these concerns are largely unsupported. Several studies have demonstrated that online therapy is an effective method of treating anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and depression. Furthermore, online therapy was discovered to be just as effective as in-person sessions when it came to managing these mental health issues.

This is because online therapy is capable of doing nearly anything that is done in person. Clients can send messages to their therapist at any time to receive support, and they can schedule text or video sessions ahead of time. These sessions allow the individual to talk to their therapist in a way that is more comfortable for them. Regardless of the style of therapy that individuals select, the result is that they get a chance to talk about their struggles and thoughts.
